Puppies
We are a preservation breeder and do not produce puppies on demand. Each litter is carefully planned with extensive detailed research. Therefore, we will not home our puppies to just any one that has the money. You must submit an application. Applications are kept on file and when we begin to plan a litter we will conduct interviews. You can email us if you have questions or would like to conduct the interview sooner. Interviews are not optional. They can be done via zoom, phone, or in person but you will not be an approved applicant until it is completed.
We will not accept deposits and will only be keeping an "interest" list not a waitlist. Swedish Lapphunds have a litter size ranging from 3 to sometimes 7 puppies, therefore we can not guarantee anyone a pup until after they are born and evaluated. We have no control over mother nature and how many will be born.
Puppies will be recorded in the AKC's FSS program, microchipped, tested with Embark for PRA, and given age appropriate vaccines & worming medication by our licensed DCVM before leaving. Contracts will be given for review prior to pickup and signed day of pickup. For those interested in UKC registration we will do these before they leave as well. All puppies will be raised with Puppy Culture, Early Neurological Stimulation, and moving forward Early Scent Introduction. As well they will be properly exposed to a multitude of situations including other dogs, cats, small children, medical equipment, vet office, crate, leash, grooming, etc. We do work on potty training, however it is up to the owner to reinforce this when the puppy goes home. If there is something specific you want them introduced to you do need to let us know so we can make the best effort to do so.
We do not base pricing on sex, color, or registration status. Our breed comes in very limited color so pricing based on colors or markings is un-ethical. Those leaving on co-ownership contracts will be the only ones with a different fee. Co-ownership can be discussed during the interview or contract period, but we rarely do so unless it is an individual we want to keep in our breeding program and that lives within driving distance.
In order to prevent accidental litters we do not keep intact male dogs in our home. We generally use outside studs for this reason. Male puppies are therefore more likely to considered for co-own or we may ask to use them at a late date if they grow up well.
Puppies are evaluated around 7 to 8 weeks old by a third party trainer. We've used both CARAT and modified Volhard, and prefer to use CARAT evaluations due to the information it gives. Puppies are assigned to owners based on these evaluations. We do take personal preference into account for things such as gender (especially when there is existing dogs in the home), but ultimately we want to place puppies in a way that sets everyone up for success.
